While we do not know who St. Valentine was or the exact story behind the holiday, that it is a beloved day for a lot of us, is for sure! Luckily, the 14th of February is approaching. To get into the romantic mood we have found some funny facts about love, tips to make the day even more romantic, and some cheer ups for all the single ladies (and men)!
The addiction of love
Valentine’s day is all about love. Love is an addiction. Because of love you can focus on one person, think obsessively about that person and crave this person. You are willing to take every risk to win that person over (and sad enough experience withdrawals and a big relapse when dumped, just like drug rehabilitation).
But how is this possible? The part of the brain’s reward system is in a very active modus. The cells in this part produce dopamine that give you motivation, focus, the feeling of craving and desire. This same part of the brain becomes active when people use drugs, like cocaine. But love is more, love becomes an obsession. So why ignore this craving and exciting feelings? Build up your courage and tell your secret crush that you love him or her!
S.O.S. we do not know how to impress
Okay, you found the courage? Great, but what now? What are you going to say to your lover and how are going to make sure that he or she falls for you? If you think your crush is in for some humour, you might have success with the following opening sentences:
‘Are you a magician? Because whenever if I look at you, everyone else disappears’
‘I am not Fred Flinstone, but I bet I can make your bed rock’
‘I am not the prettiest and smartest girl out there, but I am the only one talking to you’
‘See these keys? I wish I had the one to your heart?’
‘You must be a hell of a thief, because you stole my heart from across the room’
‘Was that an earthquake or did you just rock my world?’
‘There is something wrong with my cell phone. It does not have you number in it’
If you think your crush is a little bit more serious, just simple ask them out for a lovely drink 😉
It is never too late for a romantic date
You can only make a first impression once, so if you really want to impress your crush, the first date should be quite original. Luckily for you, we have got some great ideas!
If you would like to find out if your date is a daredevil, you should visit the A’DAM Tower. ‘Over the edge’ is Europe’s highest swing and it is located on top of the A’DAM Tower. We heard it is very exciting!
For the ones that believe in “it is only the inside that matters”, you should definitely eat at ‘ctaste’. At ‘ctaste’ you can enjoy a lovely diner in complete darkness. All your senses will be stimulated optimally!
Of course, the most mainstream date is going for a drink. If there is a little time pressure, this is a good option. But would you like to make that date a little bit more special? Go to a bingo night or a pub quiz! It is the ultimate way to enjoy your beer with a lot of fun. Even if the date doesn’t work out, you might still go home with a great price. Nice bonus, right?
Single and ready to mingle
For the single ones among us, do not get depressed. Because science has found some real benefits of being single. Dr. Bella Depaulo states that when being single, people tend to be more motivated, self-reliant and have connections of increasing value with friends, family and co-workers. Besides, Kimberley Friedmutter says that when being single people are in the ‘go’ mode and hereby more alert. This will cause better health, a better night sleep, and a fitter body.
Do you not believe in science? Then buy a bucket of Ben & Jerry’s and start drowning in tears when watching ‘The Titanic’ or the lovely movie ‘Valentine’s Day’. This will also make you feel better, but not in the long term unfortunately…
So, whether you are going to enjoy Valentine’s day with your crush, a person you just picked up at the bar, with your roommates or all alone, we wish you a day full of romance, love and happiness
