Why I applied for a board year at Aureus

I decided to apply for the Aureus board as it is a unique opportunity to develop yourself whilst having all the perks of the student life. The fact that you keep a large, professional organization up and running together with a team of seven young, like-minded students really appealed to me. During a board year, you get the chance to make a real impact with your policy, something an average internship or starter position cannot offer. Besides this, I really like that you are able to attend all the career-related and social events the association organizes.

As the controller of the Aureus board, my main responsibilities consist of composing and controlling the budget, managing the financial administration and supervising the controllers of all committees of Aureus. Furthermore, I supervise the European Study Trip Committee and the Master Club Marketing. What I like most about my function is the combination of working on an analytical level and working closely together with the committee controllers on a personal level. As a controller, you are constantly assessing to what extent expenses have added value for the association.

What kind of issues do I have to deal with?

You are forced to make difficult decisions and you are always challenging your fellow board members to think further. I really enjoy transferring this critical way of thinking to the committee controllers, enabling them to make the most out of the event(s) they are organizing. Besides this, I like to spend time on optimizing processes related to my function. I am currently implementing an online application which will digitize the process of reimbursing committee members who have made expenses for Aureus via their private bank account. Hopefully this will enable me to work more efficiently as well as ease the process for committee members.
