Introduction • What is GDP?

In the upcoming weeks, the Graduates Development Program will post multiple blogs and give updates about their events. You might wonder, what is GDP and who are they? Hereby, a short introduction blog that explains what GDP is and who we are.

The Graduates Development Program (GDP) is a charity project by Aureus formed by fifteen third year bachelor and master students from the SBE at the Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam.

Each year there is a new group of students who will dedicate their time to support local entrepreneurs in a developing country. At the end of the year, the entire group will visit the businesses at the location to improve their small businesses by sharing knowledge and financial aid. The GDP team is visiting different developing countries every year. A few examples of countries that the GDP team has been to are Uganda, South Africa, and Panama.

This year, the GDP team has started a collaboration with RSVP Caribbean to help local entrepreneurs in Jamaica! In order to be able to help these local businesses, the project is divided into 3 phases. The first phase, the acquisition phase, is to raise money and have resources to fully support the selected businesses in Jamaica. In the following days, we will post our fundraising events such as the Urban Trail, with the possibility of sponsoring us! Afterwards, there is a research phase to learn everything about Jamaica itself, to guarantee the best help possible. Last but not least, the GDP team will travel to Jamaica, where we put our business knowledge into practice. However, due to coronavirus, various things have changed for our project. Are you curious about how this has affected our project? Next week a new blog is dedicated to the impact of the coronavirus on our project.
