- Financial administration of Aureus
- Financially supervising the controllers of all committees
- Responsible for all Aureus Services
- Vice-Chairman of the Aureus Board – supporting the Chairman in the strategic decision making of Aureus
- Committee coordination: Amsterdam Research Project, European Study Trip, Masterclub Finance/Financial Management/Economics
About Merel:
Hi! My name is Merel and I am the Controller and Vice-Chairman of the 72nd Aureus Board. In 2017 I started my bachelor Economics and Business Economics at the VU and in my second year I decided to join a committee at Aureus. I became the controller of the SBE Masterday committee, with whom we organized the introduction day of the new master students of the faculty. I acquired a lot of new skills and knowledge on the one hand, and on the other hand I had an amazing time with my fellow committee members.
Unfortunately, I was not able to attend the Masterday myself, since my exchange in Canada had already started. However, going on exchange is an amazing opportunity, which I didn’t want to miss out for the world and it turned out to be an even better experience than I expected. I had an unforgettable time and as a matter of fact I was quite sad that I had to leave after just half a year.
Back in The Netherlands, convinced by the great stories of former board members, I set my heart on doing a board year. Therefore, I applied for the 72nd Aureus Board and I was lucky enough to become the Controller. For me, being the Controller of Aureus is the perfect combination of developing myself, by learning hard skills, such as bookkeeping, and coordinating the controllers of all committees, who I can help to develop themselves.
Even though this year will be different than the past years due to the COVID-19 situation, I am ready to take on this challenge and I am looking forward to make this an unforgettable year together my fellow board members and all of you!
