Coffee & Concentrate | Our favorite study spots
24 March 2017
Tired of studying at home or at the university? Or just looking for some nice places to study in Amsterdam? We have found you some study spots in each part of the city! We have visited all of the locations and they are all approved. The spots we have found offer wifi and a decent cup of coffee and snacks. Studying will be less bad in these places, so what are you waiting for?
Amsterdam North is booming. It is fashionable, industrial and groovy. Pllek is all of this and above all a unique place to chill or study. Pllek is constructed of used containers and it has its own beach. The front of the restaurant is one big window: you can see the terrace, the beach, the IJ and the skyline of Amsterdam. It is very relaxing to study here if you are craving for some rest after the fuss of the city. You can take the free ferry from Amsterdam Central Station to the NDSM Werf and from there it is just a five-minute walk.
Wifi: free!
Power sockets: barely
One of the best places to meet up with your (future) colleagues is STEK. It is located next to a subway station and the perfect spot for a loungy appointment. They offer home-made dishes: from homemade mayonnaise (with additional truffle!) to a complete English breakfast. It is the to-have-breakfast-all-day kinda place. They have a great terrace where you can spend the upcoming summer days working.
Wifi: free, ask for the password
Power sockets: some
Only a ten minute bike ride away from the VU, you will find Anne & Max. For the early birds, this is the place to be. Anne & Max opens at 07:30 every weekday and at 08:00 during the weekends. Tired from studying and fantasizing about some booze? Every day from 15:00 onwards, Anne & Max is offering a high wine (or tea, in case your exam is the day after)!

De Hallen is the place to be. All the hipsters, Young Urban Professionals and tourists have come to see this Foodmarket and movie theater, located in west. It is the perfect spot to try all different kinds of food and beverages. Bel campo is located next to the famous ‘Foodhallen’. It is a cafe within a library, with that comes complete quietness and the ability to order a cup of coffee or a delicious sandwich. Best of both worlds!
Wifi: you have to like the Facebook page in order to have access to the network
Power sockets: enough
Near to Amsterdam Central Station you can find the OBA, one of the public libraries in Amsterdam. The OBA offers a lot of free places to study, some of them are quiet areas, perfect for when you are easily distracted. There are a lot of power sockets and they are opened until 22 pm, so you can study all day here if you want to! At the top floor you will find La Place where you can spend your study breaks and grab some food or coffee.
Wifi: about €12 per year
Power sockets: a lot
But remember, don’t study too much. Make sure that you take enough breaks! Wondering why? Read our article about burnouts here.
