About Maaike

My Aureus journey started in my first year of the bachelor Bedrijfskunde. During the introduction week, which was an amazing week where I got to know the friends I still have, I came in contact with Aureus.

After this week I was doubting about doing a committee or not. I first decided not to apply for committee membership. However, I saw friends developing themselves, having fun within their committees, and on the committee members weekend. I decided I wanted to join a committee. I applied in December (before the recruitment even started) and I joined the Internal Events Committee which organizes events for all the committee members. After a half year of being part of this committee, I became part of the Bachelor Club Bedrijfskunde. As a chairwoman, I developed my organizational and leadership skills.

In my third year, I went on an exchange to Canada. When I came back I wanted to challenge myself more. I applied for the Amsterdam Career Days (ACD) committee, one of the most challenging committees of Aureus. With a team of eight we organized an amazing event, we had a lot of fun and we learned a lot from each other. Because at the time of the event I was already in my Master Financial Management I was looking for the next step in my career. After thinking a lot about the next step, a board year was what I was looking for. On one hand, a board year is a year full of fun, on the other hand, you get the chance to lead a huge association which brings a lot of responsibility. After a few interviews, I was chosen for the new function, the Innovation Officer.

This will certainly be a challenging year. I get the chance to develop and structure the new function this year. As Innovation Officer I am responsible for the long-term vision and strategy of Aureus which I think is really cool. Next to that, this year we will have to deal with Covid-19. However, despite Covid-19, I think, with the amazing team and committee members we have, we will still make a great success of this year.
