About Colin Hello and nice to meet you! My name is Colin van der Kolk and I am 22 years old. I am the Chairman of the 71st board of Aureus. Whilst growing up and living in Alkmaar, I decided to join Aureus in the 2nd year of my Bachelor Business Administration. At first, I hesitated to join Aureus, I did the sport judo extensively, worked, lived at home and thought Aureus wouldn’t fit in my busy schedule. However, my friends, who also applied at the time, convinced me to join Aureus. They couldn’t be more right in the end. It was one of the best choices I ever made.

My Aureus career started in the Almanac committee, making the yearbook of Aureus. This was a time full of new experiences, friends and mostly fun. The next year, I went on an exchange to Manchester and during this time I concluded that I learned much more in my committee than with my regular job and decided that I wanted to do a new committee where I could challenge myself even more. After some interviews, I was placed into the Amsterdam Career Days (ACD) committee, one of the most challenging committees that Aureus has to offer. Again a year with a lot of new challenges, experiences and fun. Yet, I knew that I could still learn so much about myself, about working in teams and so much more and realized that a ‘regular’ job wouldn’t give the challenges and learning curve I was looking for. From my past experiences, I recognized that being an Aureus Board member had everything I was looking for. So, I applied for the Aureus board and was chosen to be the Chairman (Side Note; I applied 2 hours before the deadline).

As the chairman of Aureus, I am responsible for the cohesion between all the board members. I also oversee the long term strategy of Aureus and maintain the relationship with our main stakeholders, other study associations and the board of the SBE. Furthermore, I supervise the Amsterdam Research Project, our Master Club Finance & Economics and I am a member of the selection committee which selects the Aureus Board of 2020-2021.

I am really looking forward to what this board year will bring me. Please feel free to contact me for a cup of coffee or anything else.
