Due to the absence of a university, I had to move to the big city. After obtaining my bachelor’s degree at the Amsterdam University of Applied Sciences,I started working at an international investment bank. While working there, the desire to further develop myself never left and eventually led me to VU University and the Amsterdam Research Project.
Tessa van der Meij – Internal Affairs
I am an undergraduate Business Administration student and have been living in Amsterdam for the last couple of years. During my bachelors, I specialized in Marketing and Consumer Behaviour. After my international Erasmus Exchange period in Edinburgh, Scotland, I became even more excited about going abroad, especially in Asia. The 2017 Amsterdam Research Project is the right opportunity to get these experiences. This academic year I will also finish a Consumer Behavior related minor and I am part-time office manager at the Amsterdam Center for Entrepreneurship.
Annabel Keulen – Controller
I am 21 years old and currently in the fourth year of my bachelor Business Administration. Last year, I studied in Barcelona for four months and decided I wanted to develop more practical skills besides my study before starting a Finance-Marketing master next year. Last year, I was part of the Marketing Team as an active member of Aureus. Being the controller of the Amsterdam Research Project I have the opportunity to develop my finance skills as well.
Bart Hoogland – External Affairs
After completing my bachelor in Business Administration and fulfilling internships at Renault and UTZ Certified, it did not feel like I was ready for the labor market. I knew I could further develop myself at VU University by enrolling in the Master Strategy & Organization and participating in the Amsterdam Research Project. I consider this to be the perfect fit between my international ambitions and my passion for exploring new cultures. I´m looking forward to collaborating with firms that share my interest in exploring new business opportunities in Indonesia and Myanmar. If you have any questions, feel free to contact me!
Anton Floor – Logistics & Marketing
During the last year of my undergraduate program, my international ambitions were sparked which made me move to New York for an internship. This resulted in a job where I worked throughout North and Middle America on various marketing projects. To take the next step, I realized I needed to further develop myself academically. This I aim to achieve by combining a Master of Marketing program with the challenging and exciting Amsterdam Research Project.

Currently I am involved in the Amsterdam Research Project, which offers me a great opportunity to further develop my professional skills. Within the project we need to build a team of 20 ambitious students in an international environment, which can be challenging but brings a lot of fun as well. Next year I will start with my Masters in Marketing and look forward to leverage from this experience.
Because of my interest in both the Asian culture and conducting business research in foreign markets, I feel excited to combine my Masters in Transport and Supply Chain Management with the Amsterdam Research Project. I am aiming to develop my academic knowledge as well as practical skills. My interests in international business developed during my Bachelor studies, when I worked in the dynamic environment of Amsterdam Schiphol Airport. What I enjoyed most in my work at the airport was to be in touch with people from all over the world, and the challenge to anticipate on their way of doing business. Therefore, I am grateful for this opportunity to work abroad and learn more about the Indonesian and Burmese culture and ways of doing business.
My name is Thomas Vromen. Currently, I am pursuing a Masters degree in Strategy & Organisations. I have a keen interest in International business which makes for a perfect match in de Amsterdam Research Project. I love to develop business abroad, meet new cultures and have gained extensive international experience by being abroad for an extended period of time.
Currently, I am an undergraduate student in Econometrics at VU University with a keen interest in the integration of earth sciences and economics. I already obtained a bachelor honours degree in Earth Sciences & Economics at VU University, while I spent half a year of my studies in Canada as an exchange student. Climate change, water management, deforestation and droughts will become some of the key issues to cope with in the next decennia, and dealing with these problems requires a fundamental understanding of both earth sciences and economics. The Amsterdam Research Product is a challenging and interesting way to conduct research on some of these issues and think creatively about the opportunities and threats of sustainable development in emerging markets.
Elise van Bergenhenegouwen
I grew up in Utrecht and moved to Amsterdam to obtain my bachelor’s degree at the Amsterdam university of applied sciences. Because of my interest for the entrepreneurial way of thinking, I started working for several start-ups. While working, i kept feeling the urge to develop myself academically, but I also wanted to apply my obtained knowledge in practice. By combining the Amsterdam Research Project with the MSc program of Entrepreneurship, I feel like I have found the perfect match of theory and practice. I am very excited to have the opportunity to join the Amsterdam Research Project of this year, and experience the whole process of acquisition, research, and consultancy.
My name is Floris, I am 25 years old, and currently enrolled in the Masters program Business Administration focussing on Strategy & Organization at the VU University in Amsterdam. Before graduate school, I did a 4-year bachelor course in Commercial Economics. During that program, I became (and still are) very enthusiastic about businesses that operate abroad. I have lived in Sydney, Australia for 7 months, in 2012, as part of an internship, where I worked for a leading company in the global superyacht industry.
The reason I applied for the Amsterdam Research Project is to enhance my skills in consultancy and international market research. What’s so great about this project, is that we get in contact with actual businesses, and do real research in a foreign country.
Madeleine de Jong
After I decided to add another year to complete my bachelor’s degree, I went looking for a new challenge for the upcoming year. And during my past exchange semester in Barcelona, I realized that I was looking for another international experience. The Amsterdam Research Project offers the exciting opportunity to combine this with developing myself more in the field of research and consultancy. And that is what makes me most enthusiastic about this project!
